General Message Board
This is the general Message Board. To discuss language, grammar, and related topics, please go to the Grammar Discussion Board. To discuss and ask questions about English as a second language, please visit the ESL Board. For discussion of topics relating to education in general, please use the Education Board. To discuss topics of literary interest, please visit the Literature Board. The Tech Board is a forum for discussion of subjects relating to technology.
The Message Board may be used to open discussions on any topic that you care to discuss or to participate in discussions already underway. A separate Grammar Discussion Board focuses on topics relating to English grammar and usage. The ESL Board specializes in questions about English as a second language. Registration for any message board permits you to use all of them.
To become a member of the Board (doesn't that sound impressive?), click "Join Message Board" (upper right corner) and fill in the form. Once I approve your membership, you will be able to post and respond to topics here. (Remember your login name and password.) Important: You will see a screen immediately acknowledging that you have registered, but do not attempt to sign in until you receive a personal welcome from me. I am not here around the clock, and the rules require that I meet you at the door, so to speak. I should normally do so within 24 hours of your request.
The registration procedure is merely a safeguard to prevent abuse. A registered member may introduce any topic or may comment on one that has already been introduced. My intention is to keep the board as open as possible so that we can develop a lively community of people with something to say.
NOTE: Topics on the Message Board will be deleted from time to time. This cleaning process is intended to avoid clutter. It does not mean that the topic is unacceptable but merely that it has appeared to have run its course.
Users who want to insert a personal profile may do so by following these steps:
1. Go to the Message Board and log on.
2. You should see (to the right and a bit below the "Message Board" heading): "Logged in: [your logon name] (vertical line) User Control Panel (vertical line) Logout."
3. Click on "User Control Panel." The first large button displayed (with a big lowercased i on it) is "Edit Member Information."
4. Click on this. This screen contains a text box that allows you to enter a description of yourself. (You may also change your e-mail address by using this screen.)
5. Click "Save" at the bottom of the page.
This information is available to anyone who clicks on your name in the Message Board grid.
NOTE: If you wish, you may experiment with drafts and HTML code by using The Workbench before posting publicly. (Instructions are on that page.)
The numbers that appear below are links to pages in the board. They appear whenever the number of the threads exceeds the limit that can be accommodated by one page.

Information and House Rules
> This site is hosted by CitySlide, which controls how the Message Board functions. I cannot alter those functions.
> The boxes in which messages are written permit html; therefore, if you know html coding, you can use features such as italics, boldface, or underlining and can create links.
> Any topic that is in good taste is acceptable. To start and participate in discussions about English grammar and usage, please go to the Grammar Discussion Board. (You do not need to register separately for that board).
> Rude, discourteous, or utterly silly posts and "flaming" or "stalking" of other participants are not permitted. Please treat others (and me) as if they were friends you don't want to lose. Repeat offenders will have their registration privileges revoked.
> For search purposes, try to put key words that identify the subject of the message in the message title. Google's "bot" will eventually pick up message text, but a good title makes searches more efficient.
Climb aboard, have fun, and thank you for being here.
