I'm the first child of a Lutheran minister and am from God's and apple country in western New York, where most of my family still lives, but came here to the Chicago suburbs to a Lutheran teachers college in 1963 and never left. (Yes, I'm that old!)
I taught school off and on for a number of years while I raised two children (one of whom is high-functioning autistic), found a second career in public libraries where I have worked for over 30 years, obtained a master's degree in counseling psychology and do counseling by appointment/phone/e-mail/IM, am owned by three indoor cats, and provide food and a warm place to sleep for two beautiful outdoor feral sisters who were born in April in our neighbor's garage (we recently got the two cats spayed to prevent more feral kittens from being born).
Of course, I love to read. Several wonderful books I recently read are true stories about animals and their humans: Wesley the Owl, Homer's Odyssey, The Daily Coyote, Dog Years, A Lion Called Christian, Merle's Door, and the memoir of a charming but dysfunctional family titled The Glass Castle. The only fiction I've read during the past few months is a new title by my favorite author Anita Shreve, Testimony.
I love to cook and bake (and even like to wash the pots and pans afterwards), and spend far too much of my life at my computer. My next project is to create a Web site to give people writing help plus a writers' community blog of some sort.
Rich Turner and I met years ago on a Internet Q&A site where we discovered we have similar taste in music. I have been one of his grammar groupies ever since.
