I can't resist sharing this one from a student's final essay this semester: The old Japanese 'Lassie fare' Buddhist way of thinking was replaced with the American 'get it done' attitude. ---------- Rich Turner (The Curmudgeon Himself)

I've seen this misspelled more ways than I can count. For more fun, Mudge, google "lassie fare."

Good grief! Since "lassie fare" gets 156,000 hits on Google, people are going to be saying it's right. They will, you know. I've seen dozens of posts on the Internet defending misspellings and abominable usage on the grounds that they produce thousands of hits on Google. Akk this proves is that a very large number of idiots are posting on the Internet (present company excepted, of course). ---------- Rich Turner (The Curmudgeon Himself)

On one message board I frequent, somebody misspelled something French and I responded, "Don't write foreign words on boards if you can't spell." Half a dozen people immediately began discussing Tom Lehrer ("Be Prepared," Tom Lehrer Revisited, or Be Prepared). That board has a number of active military and veterans who don't know there's a difference between "morale" and "moral" or between "ordnance" and "ordinance." In writing, anyway; I hope they pronounce them differently.

Speaking of finishing the semester, here's a quote as written in the local paper. "Your education is of the upmost importance..."

At least it didn't say, "You're education...."
