"Writting"

Writting is a shockingly common misspelling of writing.  When we pronounce the vowel i as a long vowel (as in write, writer, and writing), it is followed by one t, not two.  Only in written, where the i is short (as in kitten and mitten) do we have a double t.  If writting were correct, it would rhyme with knitting.
