Farther / Further
Traditionally farther has been used to denote physical distance ("Chicago is farther from here than New York is"), whereas further is the word used in all other senses ("Nothing could be further from the truth"; "Let us pursue that subject further"). However, farther has been gradually declining in use, especially in American English. Further is now widely used and accepted in all senses, even to designate physical distance.
