Here are some samples of the types of questions (with the answers) that may be expected on the skills test.
PRONOUN CASE
Circle the correct choice in each of the following.
1. Her/She/Herself and her mother have a very close relationship.
Answer: She. The pronoun is part of the compound subject.
2. After the picnic, he and me/him and I/me and him/he and I went for a swim in the lake.
Answer: he and I. Both pronouns are subjects of the verb went.
3. When you call the office, ask for my assistant or me/I/myself personally.
Answer: me. The pronoun is the object of the preposition for. In fact, both my assistant and me are objects of this preposition. We wouldn't write or say, "Ask for I" or "Ask for myself," would we?
4. For Christmas, Tom's parents gave his sister and he/himself/him $500 each.
Answer: him. The pronoun is the indirect object: Tom's parents gave [to] him $500.
5. Everyone passed Professor Snarf's exam except Maryanne and I/me/myself.
Answer: me. The pronoun is the object of except. Think about it. Would anyone say, "Everyone passed except I" or "Everyone passed except myself"?
6. Us/We/Ourselves and our neighbors have an ongoing dispute about the boundary line.
Answer: We. The pronoun is part of the compound subject of the sentence.
