ESL Board
This board is especially for individuals who are learning English as a second language. For discussion of English grammar, usage, and language in general, please use the Grammar Discussion Board. If you wish to discuss other topics, please go to the general Message Board. For topics related to education in general, please use the Education Board. For topics pertaining to literary works, please visit the Literature Board.
The ESL Board may be used to ask questions about English, especially those questions that puzzle people for whom it is not their native language. It functions just like the general Message Board, but topics should be confined to issues pertaining to English as a second language. Registration for any of the three boards (the general Message Board, the Grammar Discussion Board, or the ESL Board) enables you to use them all.
To become a member of the Board, click "Join Message Board" (upper right corner) and fill in the form. Once I approve your membership, you will be able to post questions and answers here. (Remember your login name and password.) Important: You will see a screen immediately, acknowledging that you have registered, but do not attempt to sign on until you receive a personal welcome from me. I'm not here around the clock, and the rules require that I meet you at the door, so to speak. I should normally do so within 24 hours of your request.
Topics on the ESL Board will be deleted from time to time. This cleaning process is intended to avoid clutter. It does not mean that the topic is unacceptable but merely that it has appeared to have run its course.
NOTE: If you wish, you may experiment with drafts and HTML code by using The Workbench before posting publicly. (Instructions are on that page.)
The numbers that appear below are links to pages in the board. They appear whenever the number of the threads exceeds the limit that can be accommodated by one page.

Information and House Rules
> This site is hosted by CitySlide, which controls how the ESL Board functions. I cannot alter those functions.
> The boxes in which messages are written permit html; therefore, if you know html coding, you can use features such as italics, boldface, or underlining and can create links.
> This board should be used for questions, answers, and discussions concerning English as a second language. If you wish to discuss English grammar, usage, or language in general, please use the Grammar Discussion Board. If you wish to discuss other topics, please go to the general Message Board. (You do not need to register separately for that board).
> Rude, discourteous, or utterly silly posts and "flaming" or "stalking" of other participants are not permitted. Please treat others (and me) as if they were friends you don't want to lose. Repeat offenders will have their registration privileges revoked.
> For search purposes, try to put specific key words that identify the subject of the message in the message title. Google's "bot" will eventually pick up message text, but a good title makes searches more efficient.
